Sherly Taught was founded in 2021 with a clear purpose: to help you connect with Puerto Rican culture through language.
At Sherly Taught, Spanish is taught as it’s actually spoken in Puerto Rico—natural, expressive, and rooted in real-life context. Each lesson goes beyond vocabulary and grammar, incorporating cultural nuances, everyday expressions, and ese toque de sazón boricua that brings the language to life.
We believe that learning Spanish isn’t just about communication—it’s about connection. Connection to people, to identity, and to culture.
That’s why every student experience is fully adapted to meet your needs and preferences. Wepa! I’m Sherly Velázquez—educator, language lover, culture enthusiast, and the heart and sazón behind Sherly Taught.
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, where culture isn’t just something you learn—it’s something you live. That energy, warmth, and connection are at the core of everything I do.
With a background in Psychology, a TEFL certification, and a Master’s in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, I’ve built a teaching approach that goes beyond textbooks. I believe learning a language should feel exciting, empowering, and deeply personal.
I created Sherly Taught in 2021 to change the way people experience Spanish. This isn’t just about memorizing rules—it’s about building confidence, expressing yourself, and connecting with people and cultures in a real way.

1:1 lessons
1:1 Spanish lessons for adults tailored to your learning style and pace, designed to create a comfortable, creative, and safe space where language meets culture and learning feels natural.
Shared private lessons
Learn Spanish together. Private shared lessons for adult friends or family at a similar level—personalized, engaging, and rooted in culture and real-life connection.
Small group Lessons
Starting June 17, join our small-group Spanish courses for adults with separate groups for beginner and intermediate students. With 16 sessions (75 minutes each), meeting twice per week and a max of 6 students, you’ll learn in a comfortable, engaging space—building confidence y con ese sazón boricua.
Hybrid Package
A hybrid Spanish experience blending personalized lessons for adults with cultural connection. Begin with a complimentary onboarding session, followed by one private lesson and one cultural group session each week focused on real-life Puerto Rican Spanish.

Is Puerto Rican Spanish a whole different type of Spanish?
Puerto Rican Spanish isn’t a completely different type of Spanish, but it does have its own unique rhythm, pronunciation, and vocabulary shaped by the island’s culture. With the right guidance, it becomes natural—and even fun—to understand and use.
Can I take lessons with a friend or family member?
Yes! Our private shared lessons are designed for two students at a similar level who want to learn together in a personalized and engaging way.
Do you offer flexible scheduling?
We offer flexible scheduling, allowing you to select your lesson times each week based on your availability, while our courses follow a fixed schedule.
When will I start seeing results?
Progress depends on your consistency, goals, and practice outside of class, but many students begin to notice increased confidence and understanding within the first few weeks. With regular sessions and engagement, you can expect steady and meaningful progress over time.
Do you offer courses or ongoing lessons?
We offer both. You can choose ongoing lessons for a flexible, personalized experience based on your goals and availability, or join a structured course with a set schedule and clear progression.
Do you teach kids?
Not yet—our lessons are currently designed for adults, but a kids’ curriculum is in development.

We’re a Puerto Rico–based online Spanish school, teaching students from all over the world. While our lessons are fully virtual, our approach keeps you connected to the culture, expressions, and everyday language of the island.
